Indiana is full of great state parks. One that’s just a short drive from the Fort Wayne area—perfect for a weekend getaway—is Pokagon State Park in Angola, IN. Here are some of the fun activities and great amenities you can expect during your visit.
Camping
The campground at Pokagon has a number of campsites with RV hookups. They also feature on-site showers and restrooms, in case you plan on getting a
popup camper. Each site also features a picnic table and fire ring.
Water Recreation
Pokagon State Park is located in Indiana’s lake region, along the shores of beautiful Lake James. Because the lake is central to this state park, you can find a wide range of water activities to enjoy, including:

- Canoeing
- Kayaking
Hiking
The state park has a number of trails ranging in difficulty. No matter what your skill level, you can enjoy views along the lake, wildlife on woodland trails, and several natural history landmarks. A number of trails even start at the campground, allowing you easy access from your campsite.
Nature Center
Find out more about Indiana’s flora and fauna as well as local wildlife at the Nature Center. They have an observation area, exhibits, and activities available for individuals and families alike.
Horseback Riding
The park has a number of trails designated for equestrian use. If you don’t have your own horse, you can take part in a guided horseback trail ride.
Other Activities
In addition to the activities already mentioned, you can also enjoy time at the Potawatomi Inn. Browse through their gift shop or dine at the restaurant. You can even enjoy some time reading a book out on their sun deck overlooking the lake. During the winter months, don’t miss out on the toboggan run—great fun for people of all ages.
